Being "Cool" is not enough

How many times have you read this quote? -“Back-benchers become entreprenuers, and then they hire the first-benchers”. This is the most inaccurate description of the Reality.

Coming late to class, bunking, becoming a murga, making fun of teachers… is it funny? Hell yes!! And, maybe even ‘cool’. But you know what is even cooler? –Earning 2.28 MILLION rupees per annum- that’s the median salary of the IIMA students in 2018. Cool enough, eh? And, you know what? Many of them do become entrepreneurs, and they will never hire you. Sorry, they will never be sorry.

It doesn’t matter if you are a back-bencher in a class, become a first bencher at whatever you love. Sachin Tendulkar has failed grade 10th board exams thrice. but, he was the first bencher in the field of cricket. He might even be richer than those Ivy League graduates, but the question is, how many of these back-benchers do succeed? The answer is- only a small fraction. Now, how many of those first-benchers succeed? -a very large fraction.

Some people might argue that the success is about happiness, I agree. Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, Harsha bhogle, or your first-bencher classmate - ask any of them if they are happy or not? I am damn sure, they are. I am also sure that they do not regret the hard work they have put in over the course of their career.

I have been that Back-bencher once, but now my better sense has prevailed- 'Being  "Cool" is not enough.'

  1. Indeed,I was the backbencher just to hide my incompetence and by wearing the label of backbancher nobody questions me.I do believe the true happiness lies in working hard for your goals no matter how others percieve it cool or not.
Thanks for such an Outstanding Article
